PROGRAM ELEMENTS

The Four Steps

There are 4 steps in the Career Achievement Package: Develop Self-Awareness, Explore, Focus, and Take Action. The package can be split into two parts and completed separately. The first part includes Develop Self-Awareness, and the second part includes Explore, Focus, and Take Action.

STEP 1

Develop Self-Awareness

An integrated assessment process is the starting point for clarity on your value proposition and what you want to do next, not what you’ve been doing.

By following a structured, methodical process to look at the different factors that affect your vision-making, we define what you want to do next. This process is a derivative of the Highlands “whole person” methodology. You will complete the The Highlands Ability Battery™ and then meet with Joyce to talk through your results. Additionally, you will complete Strong Interest Inventory®, a skills assessment, and a value survey. Between sessions, you will interpret and reflect on your results. At the same time, Joyce will be assessing the themes, patterns, and any inherent contradictions. The outcome of the process uses a digital whiteboard to collaborate and integrate all of your results. Joyce will be challenging your thinking along the way if she sees you are underrating yourself in a self-assessment compared to your results in a skills test. She will highlight what you may take for granted and not realize are your strengths.

STEP 2

Explore

Armed with a vision from Step 1, Joyce now gives you ways to dive deeper into careers that may spark your interest.

You will go on job posting sites, identify a posting that can aid in re-engineering your marketing toolkit in Step 3. You will zero in on what it is you want to do so you can tailor your resume to it. You will research and survey databases to find out key data like salary ranges so you can define your minimum. You may perform informational interviews with people who are in the industry or job role you want to shift into. In this step, you can learn about their experience, how they got into it, and how to move in that direction. This step begins your journey to continually build connections outside of your work environment. Nurture your network not just for this transition but future transitions, because once you have the knowledge you own it.

STEP 3

Focus

Now you’re ready to execute a targeted approach.

Now that you’re clear on what you want to do and where you want to go, Joyce will collaborate with you to update your resume and LinkedIn profile. She knows how to curate your narrative and ensure you have the right key words to attract opportunities. You have targeted employers through your research in Step 2. Now that those employers are identified you can setup new job notifications for that company, setup inroads to network in that company, and come up with an action plan and timeline for that new company. Joyce will guide you through the process, provide encouragement and accountability, and shine light on any blind spots.

STEP 4

Take Action

Share what you’re doing next with others and utilize your network with your goal to land a job or career that’s truly best for you.

Most people find their next job not through their immediate connections, but through their secondary or tertiary connections. You will use your outer circle to expand your network, make connections, share what you want to do next, what your value is, and establish the credibility so your network can help you. You’re creating the value and finding groups that align well with what you want to do, like volunteering at an event, or getting certifications that can really make a difference in setting you apart. You will establish deeper connections with people so they can observe your work ethic, problem-solving skills, how you interact with others, and get to know your personality. This gives them the confidence to recommend you to a job role. Joyce will provide the guidance and accountability to help you get this done, and may also help you with cover letters, interview prep, interview debrief, and negotiations.

Joyce took a holistic approach and the time to understand what makes me tick. Her approach gave me the clarity and confidence to transition into a new role and industry. She is professional, warm and kind while still being direct and structured. With her help, it took me only a few months to get where I wanted to go.

Career Catalyst Reviews

“When I met Joyce, I was struggling to figure out the next steps in my career. I had scaled back

while my children were young and was questioning whether to pick up where I left off or start

something new. The assessments we did gave me new insight into my strengths and interests

and helped me to figure out a new path. I am now energized about my career and have

confidence in my new venture! I could never have achieved this clarity without Joyce’s help.

Now, she is helping me stay on track, and providing the accountability I need to keep moving

toward my goals. I am so grateful for Joyce’s counsel and support. I would absolutely

recommend her for helping to determine the right career path, and to stay on it.”

Angela Orkin, Child Advocacy Attorney

“When I first sought out Joyce’s help, I was in a job that I knew I didn’t like (but thought I

needed) and did not have a firm idea of what I wanted long term. Joyce worked with me

using a variety of tools and assessments that allowed me to see, from a data-driven

perspective, where I might thrive. It was so helpful to be able to see, on paper, why my

job at the time was a totally wrong fit for me, and other jobs that might suit me better.

My sessions with Joyce gave me the feeling that I wasn’t alone in my search anymore. I

was not longer hopeless and overwhelmed in searching for alternative career paths: I

was on a team.”

Career Catalyst Package FAQs

Career Catalyst is a robust package, so you may have questions. Read on for more information and contact Joyce if you would like to learn more.

  • The Highlands Ability Battery™ is made up of 19 timed exercises that measure your innate abilities. It was derived from the Johnson O’Connor assessment and is based on more than 80 years of research.

The Strong Interest Inventory® assessment provides robust insight into your interests to help you consider the potential career, education, and/or work environment that’s right for you. It comes from the Myers-Briggs Company and is built on psychologist John Holland’s theory and is backed by more than 80 years of research into how people of similar interests are employed, and what motivates individuals in the workplace.

Other surveys and exercises measure your values, skills and goals.

  • In the work environment, if you’re unhappy with what you’re doing, there can be minor adjustments that can inform your daily behavior on the job. If you know based on your results that you are a highly analytical problem solver and you use linear logic, that tells you you need more time to process a new challenge. Knowing this information can help you relate to others in the workplace so you can communicate to your colleagues what you need — in this example, that you understand and need more time. Your results will help you play to your strengths, and gain perspective about your team’s strengths, so you can delegate or bring in other resources to tackle tasks that are not in your wheelhouse. You can reengineer or design your job to highlight what you do best. The results will also help you curate your narrative when going into an interview or job search process, giving you insight on how you work best, and how you contribute to a process or organization.

  • The Career Catalyst Package tells you how to take the information about yourself and apply it in multiple job contexts. It won’t tell you specifically what you should be, but in broad terms, what you want to do, how you want to approach your work, what type of institution or environment is for you, and what your driving motivators are. Once you see the vision, then you can find prospective job opportunities, and that’s really the eureka moment. Getting to the vision is step one, but executing that vision moves you to a better place, and this package will guide you through the entire process.

  • Unlike cookie cutter programs that can take six to twelve months, the Career Catalyst Package meets you where you are and finds a path that takes your interests, values, and skills into account. You will work with a coach with 30+ years of experience, who has worked both as a career strategist as well as in the corporate world. Most coaches come from a HR background, but Joyce has the unique vantage of having worked in consulting, training and sales in multiple industries. You can read more about her backstory on the About page.

  • Step 1 and the first part of the package includes 8 hours of meetings with Joyce, broken into chunks, and Steps 2, 3, and 4, the second part of the package, also includes 8 hours of meetings with Joyce and will be broken into chunks. The time together will be somewhat flexible. Joyce works with you to tailor how you will spend time together. Here is an example breakdown of how meetings for Step 1 would look:

Meeting 1: Highlands Ability Feedback, 2 hours
Meeting 2: Strong Interest Inventory Feedback, 1.5 hours
Meeting 3: Review of Peak Events, Values & Skills, 1.5 hours
Meeting 4: Integration of Results: Career Vision, 2 hours
Meeting 5: Goal Setting & Next Steps, 1 hour
